The path to success is never straight and easy, but if a person works hard in the right direction and remains firm on his intentions, then the destination is definitely achieved. One such inspiring story is that of Arpit Jain, who after becoming a doctor, not only passed the UPSC Civil Services, which is considered to be the toughest examination in the country, but also achieved success twice. Today he is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and remains in the news for his work as well as his thinking and experiences.
Arpit Jain was born in Maksi, a small village in Madhya Pradesh. His childhood was spent in ordinary circumstances. Education was always considered important in the family, but facilities were limited. Arpit believes that no matter what the circumstances are, if the goal is clear in the mind and there is discipline in life, then paths will be created on their own. Arpit, who grew up in a village environment, made hard work and honesty his strength from the beginning.
There was a big change in his life after class eighth. For better studies, he had to leave home and go to Bhopal, where he started living with relatives. This was the first time in his life when he learned to handle himself while staying away from home. The experience of a new city, new responsibilities and standing on one’s own decisions proved to be a turning point for him. From here the feeling of becoming self-reliant became stronger within him.

The result of his hard work in studies was that Arpit Jain completed his MBBS from the country’s prestigious medical institute, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. After this he also did MD. During his studies and training as a doctor, he observed the society very closely. During treatment in hospitals, he realized that the roots of many diseases and problems are not limited to the body only, but there are also social and administrative reasons behind them.
From here his perspective of thinking changed. He started feeling that if true and large-scale change has to be brought about in the society, then mere treatment is not enough. For this, improvement in policies, system and administration is necessary. This thinking turned him towards civil service. Leaving the safe and respectable path of being a doctor, he chose the difficult path of preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination.

UPSC preparation was not easy. Long syllabus, tough competition and mental pressure were all there. But Arpit Jain did not give up. He studied with full planning, practiced regularly and maintained confidence in himself. His hard work paid off and in the year 2014, he passed the UPSC exam and secured 194th rank. With this he was selected in the Indian Police Service.
