Is this really the initiative of the ‘common man’? While on one hand elections are often known for controversies, money games and power tussles, on the other hand a very interesting and inspiring news has emerged from the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election of Hyderabad. This news not only strengthens the celebration of democracy, but also shows the responsibility of the ‘common man’ towards the society.
In a commendable step, the local auto union has announced free service of 200 auto-rickshaws for the by-elections of Jubilee Hills Assembly. This initiative is for those voters who often face difficulty in reaching the polling booth. Auto Union’s ‘Auto Annalu’ (Auto Brother) has made it clear that their priority is to ensure that the most vulnerable sections of the society reach the polling booth without any hassle.
Who will get the benefit?
This free service will mainly benefit the elderly, disabled, lactating mothers and people traveling with small children. The auto drivers said that they will drop these people directly from their homes to the polling booth for free, to ensure their participation in the voting process.
200 auto rickshaws are providing free service
This service will be available throughout the day from the time the elections begin till the end of voting in the evening. A fleet of 200 auto rickshaws will be ready for this noble cause. This collective decision of the drivers of Auto Union shows that voting is not only a civil right but also a responsibility and they are giving their full cooperation in fulfilling this responsibility.
On the other hand, during voting in Jubilee by-election, a case of tension has come to light at the polling booth of Borabanda. There was a clash between Congress and opposition BRS workers. To ensure transparency and orderliness of the election process, GHMC Commissioner and District Election Officer R.V. Karnan inspected the polling stations set up at Don Bosco School in Erragadda and gave necessary instructions.
