Jubilee Hills by-election: Clash between BRS and Congress workers, tension at polling booths


During the voting in the by-election of Jubilee Hills Assembly under Hyderabad, a tense situation arose at the polling booth of Borabanda when a heated argument broke out between the workers of the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS and it soon turned into a clash. This incident once again shows that the political heat regarding the by-elections in the area is at its peak.

BRS candidate Maganti Sunita Gopinath alleged that Congress leaders were forcefully stopping her from setting up a table near the booth. According to him, Congress workers were violating election rules and when they protested, the police took unilateral action. Sunita Gopinath openly accused the police of favoring the Congress party and threatening their workers.

The police calmed down the matter by explaining
She gave a clear warning that she would not tolerate any such behavior that intimidates her workers. However, the police intervened timely and pacified the ongoing dispute between the two parties and brought the situation under control. On the other hand, to ensure transparency and orderliness of the election process, GHMC Commissioner and District Election Officer R.V. Kernan inspected the polling stations set up at Don Bosco School in Erragadda for the Jubilee Hills by-election.

The District Election Officer assured that all necessary arrangements have been made for the general public to vote without any hassle. He also said that when voting started in the morning, there was a malfunction in the electronic voting machines (EVMs) at 11 centres, but the problem was immediately rectified and voting started again smoothly.

Commissioner Karnan has conducted the inspection at a time when there were continuous reports of tension and clashes between political parties in places like Borabanda, raising questions on the security and fairness of the electoral process.
