As the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-elections are approaching, serious allegations are being made against leaders and workers associated with Congress of distributing money and sarees to woo voters. These incidents have come to light in areas like Erragadda, Borabanda and Yallareddyguda of Shekhpet division, which raise big questions on law and order. First of all, the police raided a hotel in Erragadda regarding this matter.
There was information that Congress leaders were distributing money from there. About 11 people have been arrested in this raid and they have been taken to the police station for further legal action. This action has taken place at a time when the Election Commission is trying to ensure strict adherence to the Model Code of Conduct.
Money and sarees are being distributed to woo voters
Apart from this, the situation in Borabanda is even more shocking. There are reports of Congress workers freely distributing money and sarees in markets and public places. Local people say that all this is happening openly, which clearly reflects the inaction of the administration and police. It seems as if the police system is sleeping.
Giving cash inside homes
Let us inform that many similar incidents have also been reported in Yallareddyguda of Shekhpet division. Here Congress workers were distributing sarees and cash not only on the streets but also inside people’s homes. This is a direct attack on the sanctity of democracy and shows the extent to which unethical means are being used to gain power.
It is clear from these incidents that the election code of conduct is being violated blatantly at the grassroots level. The Election Commission and the police need to take strict action with immediate effect, so that fair elections can be ensured. It is very important to stop such illegal activities before voting.
