Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke to US President Donald Trump on Saturday and appealed to him to mediate a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia. He told Trump that just as he recently brought about a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East, similarly he can play an important role in ending this war.
Zelensky wrote in a post on social media platform X, ‘I had a very positive and useful conversation with US President Donald Trump. I congratulated him on his success in bringing about a ceasefire in the Middle East. If war in one region can be stopped, then surely other wars can also be stopped – including Russia’s war.’
Gave information about attacks on Russia’s energy system
Zelensky said he also informed Trump about Russia’s recent attacks on Ukraine’s energy system. He said, ‘I am grateful for President Trump’s support. We discussed opportunities and concrete agreements to further strengthen our air security. We have good options and solid ideas to empower us.
Dramatic change in Trump-Zelensky relations
The war between Russia and Ukraine continues since February 2022. Meanwhile, the relationship between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump has also changed dramatically after a heated debate at the White House in February. At that time there was a dispute between the two leaders in the TV meeting. However, now Trump has praised Zelensky’s leadership, calling him a ‘good and brave man’. He has also assured of continuing assistance to Ukraine.
An important meeting took place in the UN General Assembly
Trump and Zelensky met face to face during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held in New York in September. In this meeting, ways to increase pressure on Russia and end the war were discussed. Zelensky also demanded America to impose additional sanctions on Russia and increase Ukraine’s defense capability.
