At present Justice B.R. Gavai is handling this responsibility and after his retirement, Justice Surya Kant can be handed over the reins of the judiciary of the country. Justice Surya Kant was born on 10 February 1962 in Hisar, Haryana. Justice Surya Kant, who was sharp and disciplined in studies since childhood, graduated from Government PG College, Hisar in 1981. After this, he obtained LLB (Law) degree from Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak in 1984.

Justice Surya Kant, who had no intention of stopping in the world of law, continued his education and passed his Master’s Degree in Law (MLL) from Kurukshetra University in 2011 with first class and first rank.

From the beginning of advocacy to the big stage
According to reports, in the year 1984, he started practicing law from the district court of Hisar. Soon his ability and hard work earned him recognition and in 1985 he moved to Chandigarh, where he started practice in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He also worked as a legal advisor to several universities, boards and government banks.
Brilliant career in judiciary
In the year 2000, he was appointed Advocate General of Punjab-Haryana High Court. Four years later, in 2004, he became a High Court judge. After this he became the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court. In 2019, he was appointed judge of the Supreme Court. Here too he heard many important cases and set new standards of justice.
