Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Kantha’ has been successful in winning the hearts of the audience. This film is being praised a lot and after a good opening, it was successful in attracting the audience to the theaters even in its opening weekend. According to Sacknilk website, ‘Kantha’ had opened with earnings of Rs 4.35 crore on its first Friday. In which it had earned Rs 2.65 crore in the Tamil version and Rs 1.7 crore in the Telugu version. On Saturday, the pace of the film increased and it showed a good growth of 14.94% and collected Rs 5 crore. However, on Sunday there was a slowdown in its earnings as compared to Saturday and it traded at the same level as on its first day.

Set in 1950s Madras, the film is the story of a superstar named TK Mahadevan (Dulquer), who is shooting Tamil’s first horror film “Santha”, along with his former mentor and filmmaker Ayya (Samuthirakani). The film is based on a fierce conflict between the two, a battle of egos between a director and his disciple. Bhagyashree plays the role of an actress named Kumari in the film, while Rana plays the role of a police inspector named Phoenix.
