Suspended Congress leader Rajeev Gowda, an accused in the harassment case of Shidalaghatta Women Municipal Corporation Commissioner of Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka, has been arrested. An FIR was registered against Rajeev Gowda for allegedly threatening to kill Municipal Corporation Commissioner Amrita Gowda.
Karnataka Police has arrested suspended Congress leader Gowda for allegedly using derogatory words and threatening the Municipal Corporation Commissioner, officials said on Monday.
Expelled Congress leaders were absconding for several days
Gowda was absconding for several days. On this, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had also raised questions on the police and ordered his arrest as soon as possible. After this, Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara instructed the police to arrest Gowda immediately.
He had told that I had instructed the police to arrest him on the very first day. However, the accused escaped before being taken into custody. There is no political pressure or compromise. Police have been asked to take decisive action.
Congress had fielded a candidate from this assembly seat in 2023.
Congress had suspended Gowda from the party last week amid the allegations. He was made a candidate from Shidlaghatta constituency of Chikkaballapura in the Karnataka Assembly elections in the year 2023. He had to face defeat in this election.
The action was taken after party leader S Manohar wrote a letter to Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. It was said that Gowda should be immediately suspended for abusing and threatening a woman officer.
BJP had targeted Congress
BJP had targeted Congress on this entire incident. BJP had alleged that the party was trying to save Gowda. Opposition leader from BJP had said that Food and Civil Supplies Minister KH Muniyappa was praising Rajiv Gowda as a good man. On this he advised the Congress leaders to feel embarrassed.
