After the worship of Navratri, there is once again a lot of excitement in the markets. The occasion is of Karva Chauth, the Suhagano fast celebrated today (10 September), regarding which a lot of enthusiasm is being seen among women.

This time more crowd is being seen in the markets than before. Women are busy purchasing everything from traditional clothes to jewellery. Shopkeepers are also very excited with the increase in the number of customers.

A huge crowd of women is gathering in Arya Samaj Road Market. This market is completely decorated on the eve of Karva Chauth. Long queues of women are becoming visible at the shops.

Today (10 October) the brides will observe Nirjala fast from 4 am till the moon rises. During this time she wishes for her husband’s long life. She takes sargi before sunrise and observes a fast without food and water throughout the day.

In the evening, women perform puja in groups and rotate the thali with each other. After this everyone waits for the moon to rise. The fast ends only after seeing and worshiping the moon.

There is a huge crowd of buyers especially at Chhalni, Karwa and Mehndi shops. Apart from this, women are also doing a lot of shopping at clothing and jewelery shops. The market streets are buzzing till late night.

A lot of enthusiasm is being seen among married women, especially newly married women, regarding this fast. Both traditional and modern things are being purchased in the markets. Shopkeepers hope that this time the sales record will be broken.

Shopkeeper Rajesh Arora, who sells goods related to Karva Chauth, says that this time the prices have come down a bit. Customers have got relief due to reduction in GST. However, the prices of Mehndi have increased compared to last year.

The market environment seems more excited and active than last year. Women are also enjoying the festivities along with shopping. A glimpse of satisfaction is also visible on the faces of the shopkeepers.

Now the fast of Karva Chauth is not limited to women only. Many men also observe this fast to express their love for their wives. In view of the crowd, Delhi Police has made strict security arrangements and continuous patrolling is going on.
