Shashi Tharoor has made a big prediction regarding the performance of BJP in Kerala. Regarding the upcoming assembly elections, Tharoor has said that BJP has no influence in the state, and also BJP has no important role in the formation of government in the state. If he opens his account in this election, that is enough.
In an interview to PTI, he said that the contest in the state will be between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF). This is not a triangular contest. BJP does not have a single seat in the assembly. If they win one, two or even three seats, they will be extremely proud and happy of BJP. They will give themselves credit for a big victory. This is the position of BJP.
BJP has no influence in the state: Tharoor
Tharoor said that he does not have enough influence in the state to play an important role in the government. This contest is going to be between LDF and UDF. It doesn’t have any message. Tharoor has also said that there is a possibility of a close contest in the state. This means that every seat and every vote is important. That’s why we are not ignoring BJP.
Tharoor said that Congress does not see BJP as a threat to the government or a potential ruling party in Kerala. As I said, the most they can do is open their account. When he was asked whether BJP has no influence in Kerala politics right now, he said that yes, it is true. A certain vote percentage is required to win a seat.
BJP’s vote percentage in Lok Sabha was 19%: Tharoor
He said that even after more than 17 years have passed since he entered politics, BJP has grown from a party with 6 percent votes to a party with 12 to 13 percent votes. BJP got 19 percent votes in the Lok Sabha elections. When it comes to elections in the states, they again go down to around 12-13 percent.
BJP can improve its position: Tharoor
Tharoor has also said that BJP can improve its position. It is a slow and gradual process. It is not possible that they will be able to reach the required figures to win seats. In the 2021 assembly elections in Kerala, the ruling LDF retained power with 99 seats. This was eight more seats than the previous elections.
This was the first time since 1977 that a coalition won power in the state for the second consecutive time. BJP managed to win one seat in Kerala in the Lok Sabha elections. Suresh Gopi won from Thrissur seat. Elections for the 140 member assembly in Kerala are to be held on April 9.
