- Liver Cirrhosis: The biggest and deadliest disease of Khaleda Zia was liver cirrhosis. According to doctors, it had reached advanced stage. Due to liver cirrhosis, the stomach and chest start filling with water, bleeding and poison starts accumulating in the body. Doctors confirmed this only in 2021. After that it was said many times that liver transplant was necessary, but due to age and condition it could not be done.
- Diabetes: Khaleda Zia had this disease for many years. Let us tell you that due to sugar, other parts of the body also have a bad effect.
- Heart problem: Khaleda Zia had a blockage in her heart. First stents were placed and later a pacemaker was also installed. Doctors told that the heart problem was quite old.
- Kidney failure: In the last days of her life, Khaleda Zia’s kidneys were badly affected. In such a situation, he had to undergo dialysis daily. Doctors told that when dialysis was stopped, his condition deteriorated.
- Lung infection and shortness of breath: In November 2025, Khaleda Zia suddenly had difficulty in breathing, cough and fever. During examination, pneumonia was found in the lungs. After this he was put on ventilator.
- Arthritis: Khaleda Zia was also suffering from joint pain and other age-related problems like eye problems, weakness and body pain.
The condition worsened in November
Let us tell you that Khaleda Zia suddenly fell very ill on 23 November 2025. Due to shortness of breath, fever and weakness, he was immediately admitted to Evercare Hospital. Initially he was kept in CCU, but when his condition deteriorated he was shifted to ICU.

Khaleda Zia’s personal doctor Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hussain had said on 27-28 December that she was going through a critical moment. Many of his organs are not working together. Doctors say that due to old age and so many diseases, it became difficult to treat everyone at once.
