Khalistan supporters staged a protest during a program outside the Consul General Office of India in Melbourne, Australia, to commemorate India’s 79th Independence Day. Indians living in Australia were gathered here to celebrate Independence Day peacefully, when the supporters reached there with flags and started committing uproar.

According to The Australia Today report, Khalistani supporters created a ruckus and vandalized the campus, which increased tension between the two sides. Local officials reached the spot and controlled the situation. It is seen in the video that Khalistani supporters are waving the flag while hoisting the tricolor on behalf of Indian supporters and singing patriotic songs. However, the tricolor was hoisted between the slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande mourning’ at the ceremony.

Recently, pro -Khalistan activities in Australia have intensified in a few months. Last month, hatred messages were written on the Swaminarayan Temple in Melbourne and two Asian restaurants. Earlier, an Indian man was attacked due to parking dispute. In this, the wires of Khalistanis were also involved in the incident. During the fourth Test match between India and Australia in 2024, there was a clash between Khalistani supporters and Indian cricket fans.

Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese congratulated India on the 79th Independence Day. He said that they can be proud of the achievements that Indians have achieved in 78 years. He appreciated the people of the Indian community living in Australia, referring to both the strong relations.
