Does Drinking More Water Prevent Kidney Stones: Kidney stone is a common but very painful problem. People who suffer from this often say that its pain is the most painful. This not only affects everyday life, but sometimes even leads to the need to go to the hospital. According to statistics, a large number of people face this problem at some point in their life and in many cases it can happen again.
Advice to drink enough water
For this reason, doctors always advise to drink more water. It is believed that drinking adequate amount of water keeps the urine diluted, due to which the minerals are not able to stick together and form stones. But the problem is that most people are not able to maintain this habit for a long time. To understand this, a big study was recently conducted, which was conducted by the Urinary Stone Disease Research Network and coordinated by Duke Clinical Research Institute. This research was published in the prestigious medical journal The Lancet, which further increases its credibility.

Who were included in this?
A total of 1,658 people, including both teenagers and adults, were included in this study from six major medical centers of America. The purpose of the research was to know whether motivating people in a special way to drink more water could prevent the formation of kidney stones. The participants were divided into two groups. One group was given general advice, while the other group was included in a special “hydration program”. Under this program, facilities like smart bottles, reminder messages, personal targets and coaching were provided so that people could drink more water.
What was the result?
In this study that lasted for about two years, it was found that the people who followed this program definitely increased the amount of water they drank. But this increase was not enough to completely reduce the risk of kidney stone formation again. Researchers say that the real challenge is for people to maintain this habit for a long time. Even though people know the benefits and get support, it is still not easy to drink more water every day. Apart from this, it also came to light that the same target cannot be right for every person. Many factors like body structure, lifestyle, weather and health condition decide how much water a person needs.
