He had undergone kidney transplant some time back and due to kidney failure, he breathed his last on 25th October. Let us tell you what things should be kept in mind while undergoing kidney transplant, so that the risk of its failure is avoided or reduced.
What things should be kept in mind?
Kidney transplant proves to be a life saver for those patients whose kidneys stop functioning. But this process is not limited to surgery only. It is necessary to take many precautions before and after the transplant, only then it can be successful. Because if you are not careful, the chances of it failing are very high. If it fails once, it can even result in death. According to the National Kidney Foundation, kidney transplant patients should first understand that they will have to take lifelong immunosuppressive medicines. These medicines prevent the body’s immune system from attacking the new kidney. Skipping these or being negligent in dosage can put the new kidney at risk. Apart from this, one thing the patient should keep in mind is that he should stay in touch with his transplant team. From time to time, doctors check whether the kidneys are working properly or not through blood tests and urine tests.
Change in lifestyle
The second most important thing is that after transplant the body’s immune system becomes weak, hence the risk of infection increases. Therefore, you need to pay special attention to cleanliness, so that there is no problem of any kind. Maintaining distance from people coming from outside, washing hands and using masks are helpful in preventing infection. Apart from this, the doctor advises the patient to have a light diet. Also, it is important to completely avoid smoking and alcohol, because they put extra pressure on the new kidney. After coming home, you do not have to suddenly start doing vigorous exercise, you can slowly return to normal life.
