Safety tips for new bike: If you have recently bought a new bike and running it at a speed of 80–100 km/h and enjoying the thrill, then stop. This habit can prove to be very harmful for your bike engine.

Actually, it is very important to behave properly for a few thousand kilometers with the new bike, which is called “running-in period” in the auto industry. Let’s know what precautions should be taken during this time.

Why is the running-in period important?

The running-in period is very important for any new bike, because at that time the engine, transmission and other mechanical parts are set by rubbing with each other. Since these parts are new, mutual coordination between them is gradually formed. If the bike is run at a high speed during this time, then these parts can start rubbing, which affects the performance of the engine, decreases fuel efficiency and the age of the bike also decreases. Therefore, it is important that the bike be slowly run, balanced and careful in the initial stages.

How to drive the bike in the first 2,000 kilometers?

In the first 2,000 kilometers, it is very important to run the bike correctly. For example, the company has set boundaries according to gear and speed for Bajaj Pulsar 150. During the first 1,000 kilometers, it is advisable to have a maximum speed of 10 km/h in the first gear, 20 in the second, 30 in the third, 35 in the fourth and the maximum of 45 km/h in the fifth gear. This speed limit is increased slightly for 1,000 kilometers subsequently, such as 15 in gear, 30 in second, 40 in third, 45 in fourth and maximum 55 km in fifth gear. During this time, more acceleration or sudden braking should also be avoided, so that there is not much pressure in the engine and transmission.

Do not run fast as soon as the bike starts

Many people start running the bike as soon as they start the bike, which is one of the most harmful habits for the engine. When you start the bike, it takes some time for the engine oil to fully reach all the parts and give lubrication. If you give the throttle immediately, the oil does not reach every part properly, which increases the wear and the engine can deteriorate prematurely. Therefore, after starting the bike, it should be left at the stand for at least 1 minute, so that the engine oil can be completely circulated and all parts can get proper lubrication.

In addition, there are many more precautions that should not be ignored. For example, regular checking of engine oil and to change the first service oil between 500 and 1,000 kilometers first. The bike should not run with more load or pillion in the beginning. It is very important to strictly follow the service schedule, especially during the first three free service. Also, before driving the bike, do check the status of chain tension, tire pressure and braking system so that there is no decrease in safety and performance.
