During earthquake
In the disastrous earthquake in Türkiye in the year 2023, India had helped Turkey a lot under ‘Operation Dost’. Two earthquakes occurred at an interval of 12 hours four kilometers from Ekinoju in South-Eastern Türkiye (near Syrian border) and Central Türkiye. Their intensity was measured at 7.8. Turkey suffered a lot of life and property due to this natural disaster. During that time, India helped them by sending medical and rescue teams in Türkiye. India also sent 150 -member NDRF teams, teams of doctors, relief materials and dog squads. This helped to save the people buried in the debris. With this, the injured were treated in a 30 -bed hospital made on the occasion of the Indian Army. India also sent a lot of medicines, tents, blankets, food items along with a medical team of 99 members. During that time, Turkish Ambassador to India, Firat Sunel also called India a ‘true friend’ of Türkiye.
Marmara earthquake
In August 1999, earthquake tremors were felt in the Marmara Sea of Türkiye. Due to this, an earthquake of 6.2 magnitude occurred in 40 km Istanbul. During this time, about 17,000 people died. Millions of people became homeless. It was considered one of the most devastating earthquakes in the history of Türkiye. During that time, India stood with Türkiye. Relief materials like food, water, medicines, medical equipment were filled in Türkiye from India. India also sent teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for relief and rescue operations.
In the time of Corona
In the year 2020, when the whole world was in the grip of Corona, India helped many countries of the world as much as possible. Türkiye’s name is also included in this episode. India had helped Turkey by providing facilities like PPE kit, vaccine, ventilator to Turkey, who is struggling with Corona. Not only this, in August 2020, India also gave $ 100 million to Turkey to deal with this horrific epidemic.
During the Cold War
India also helped Turkey during the Cold War in the 1970s. During that time, India helped him by providing financial and technical assistance to Türkiye. These included grants and debt given from agriculture to education and development of infrastructure.
