Comedian Kunal Kamra, who allegedly made controversial comments on Shiv Sena leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde, has filed in the High Court to abolish the FIR lodged against him at Khar police station.
The Bombay High Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Mumbai Police and Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel on the petition of comedian Kunal Kamra, in which he has challenged the FIR lodged on the charge of calling Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde a ‘traitor’.
Justice Sarang Kotwal and S. The bench of M. Modak said that it would hear Kamra’s petition on 16 April.
The comedians have not appeared before the Mumbai Police for questioning despite the issuance of summons thrice. Kunal Kamra had made an objectionable video on Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, after which Kunal Kamra had a 5 FIR by Khar police in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, the Madras High Court has also extended the interim anticipatory bail of Kunal Kamra till 17 April. Kamra approached the High Court to grant anticipatory bail amid the possibility of arrest.
What did Kunal Kamra say
During a program, without naming Eknath Shinde, he sang his written song on the lines of a Hindi song of the film ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ and he allegedly called Shinde as ‘Gaddar’.
After Kamra’s show, there was outrage among Shiv Sena supporters and vandalized the club and hotel where the show was organized. On the complaint of Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, Khar police have registered a case against Kamra.
