Osama bin Laden’s terrorist group Al-Qaeda is now trying to achieve a goal which it has never done before. In fact, Islamic terrorist organization Al-Qaeda is trying to rule the West African country Mali with the help of its ally Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen (JNIM).
In Mali, Al Qaeda’s ally JNIM is strengthening its hold over large parts of the country and is threatening to capture the capital Bamako. Security analysts have warned that Mali could be the first country in Al Qaeda’s 40-year history to fall completely under its control.
Al Qaeda terrorists besieging the country’s capital
In fact, for the last several months, terrorist groups have been moving rapidly towards the southern part of the West African country Mali and are encircling the capital. Along with this, many major supply routes are also being blocked. Due to this, the prices of everyday items are skyrocketing in the capital Bamako. Apart from this, there is shortage of fuel and blockade on food items also continues in Bamako. There is a shortage of essential commodities in the local markets.
Due to terrorist siege, trucks carrying essential goods are not able to reach the city. The reason behind this is said to be that terrorists have made many checkpoints on the roads. Experts call it a shadow government from where terrorists collect taxes and have even set up makeshift courts in rural areas.
Mali’s army’s morale is declining, people are losing confidence in the military government
Mali’s military junta is now struggling to maintain order in the country, which took power through a coup in 2020 and 2021. In fact, isolation from Western allies and dependence on foreign mercenaries has made Mali weak and extremely stressed. The morale of Mali’s army is completely weakened and it lacks resources. Additionally, due to the continued advance of militants and the collapse of infrastructure, people’s trust in the government is eroding.
