Amidst the war against Ukraine, Russia has tested a nuclear missile which has unlimited range and can remain in the sky for several months. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, this missile has currently flown for 15 hours in a range of 14 thousand kilometers. During this time, this invisible missile named Burevestnik remained completely out of sight of the world.
Flew for 15 hours, traveled 14,000 kilometers
On Sunday, Putin visited the Russia-Ukraine battlefield and met field commanders. While addressing the soldiers, Putin shared information about the successful test of the Burevestnik cruise missile. Putin said that Russian Chief of General Staff (Army Chief) Valery Gerasimov has informed that on October 21, the missile covered a distance of 14,000 kilometers and demonstrated the ability to defeat all the air defense systems of the world. Because any defense system in the world failed to detect this missile.
According to Putin, no country in the world has anything like the Burevestnik cruise missile, whose firepower is unlimited. Putin said that “the Burevestnik cruise missile is a weapon that is powered by a nuclear engine and whose firepower is unlimited.” That means this missile is capable of carrying nuclear weapons to any corner of the world. However, Russia has not presented any evidence related to this missile.
Putin has described it as “invincible” against current and future missile defense systems. If Russia’s claims are to be believed, it can fly almost indefinitely and change its trajectory in mid-flight, making it extremely difficult to intercept.
The Ukraine war has been going on for the last 32 months and is not stopping despite the mediation of many countries of the world including America. Russia has captured about 20-25 percent of Ukraine’s territory by conquering Ukraine’s Donbass (Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson) province. In recent days, the Russian army has also started advancing in the Sumy and Kharkiv provinces of Ukraine. Besides, missile attacks have also been carried out in the capital Kyiv. In the last three and a half years, Russia has used many of its missiles (hypersonic etc.) to attack military targets in Ukraine.
How is this missile – ‘Burovestnik’?
The 9M730 Bureauvestnik is a ground-launched, low-flying cruise missile, which can carry a nuclear warhead and is powered by a nuclear reactor. Its specialty is that it can fly to an unlimited range, because it does not require conventional fuel. According to the report of Nuclear Threat Initiative, this missile can remain in the air for several days and can dodge radar systems by flying at low altitude. By flying at a height of 50 to 100 meters it remains almost out of sight of the enemy. NATO has named it SSC-X-9 Skyfall.
ability to hit America
According to the International Institute of Defense Studies (IISS), this missile can cover a distance of up to 20,000 kilometers, which means a missile fired from Russia can directly reach any part of America. According to the report, this missile is capable of ‘targeting the entire America’, which also includes cities like Washington, New York and California.
concern of western countries
Many Western experts have raised questions on the capability of this missile. He says that a missile flying at such a long distance and with nuclear energy can pose a danger of spreading radiation. Apart from this, the slow speed of the missile also makes it easily trackable. There have been many failures in the testing of this missile before.
According to American intelligence agencies, five Russian scientists were killed in an explosion during a test in the White Sea. Putin later honored the widows of those scientists and said that they were ‘working on a weapon that is unmatched in the world.’ Putin said that ‘Burevestnik will give a new direction to Russia’s security’ and preparations have been started to include it in the defense system soon. Experts believe that if this missile is fully deployed, it can challenge the security strategy of the entire America.
