Politics is intense in Uttar Pradesh regarding deletion of names from the voter list. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party won 37 seats and Bharatiya Janata Party won 33 seats, while the remaining seats went to Congress and other parties. Now, if these results are linked to the district-wise voter list reduction, then a huge difference is clearly visible in the areas where both the parties won seats. This may impact the assembly elections proposed in UP in the year 2027.
In the districts won by the Samajwadi Party, the reduction in names from the voter list was usually between 15 to 25 percent, although in some places it was more or less than this. Talking about seats, names of 21.57% voters were eliminated in Kannauj Lok Sabha seat, 16.17% in Mainpuri, 16.75% in Shamli district associated with Kairana seat, 16.29% in Muzaffarnagar, 15.76% in Moradabad. The reduction was 18.29% in Rampur district, 20.29% in Sambhal, 18.13% in Firozabad, 16.80% in Etah and 20.39% in Badaun.
Whereas in Bareilly district associated with Amla Lok Sabha seat, 20.99% names were removed. A reduction of 17.50% was recorded in both Kheri and Dhaurahara seats falling in Kheri district. Maximum 30.04% names were cut in Lucknow district with Mohanlalganj seat.
On the other hand, names of 17.19% voters in Sultanpur, 19.81% in Pratapgarh, 18.95% in Etawah, 16.34% in Jalaun, 10.78% in Hamirpur and 13% in Banda were removed. 16.32% reduction was recorded in Fatehpur, 18% in Kaushambi, 17.69% in Ayodhya (Faizabad), 13.82% in Ambedkar Nagar, 16.51% in Shravasti, 15.70% in Basti and 19.96% in Sant Kabir Nagar. 15.25% in both Lalganj and Azamgarh seats of Azamgarh district, 17.52% in Ghosi (Mau), 17.22% in Deoria district associated with Salempur, 18.16% in Ballia, 16.51% in both Jaunpur and Machlishehr, 13.85% in Ghazipur, 15.45% in Chandauli and Sonbhadra of Robertsganj seat. Names of 17.93% voters were deleted in the district.
More name cuts on seats won by BJP?
At the same time, in the districts won by BJP, the level of deletion of names from the voter list appears to be relatively high and in many places it reached 20 to 30 percent. There was a reduction of 13.22% in Amroha, 24.65% in Meerut, 28.83% in Ghaziabad, 23.98% in Gautam Buddha Nagar, 15.14% in Bulandshahr and 20.99% in Bareilly. 16.30% names were removed in Hathras, 19.19% in Mathura, 22.30% in Hapur, 21.76% in Shahjahanpur, 21.57% in Kannauj and 20.80% in Farrukhabad. 20.44% voters in Bahraich, 20.39% in Badaun, 25.50% in Kanpur Nagar, 23.25% in Agra, 18.18% in Varanasi and 30.04% in Lucknow were left out of the list. There was a reduction of 13.61% in Pilibhit, 18.04% in Hardoi, 18% in Kaushambi, 16.80% in Etah, 18.60% in Aligarh, 17.51% in Unnao and 13.92% in Jhansi.
Along with this, 24.64% in Prayagraj (Phulpur), 20.44% in Bahraich district associated with Kaiserganj seat, 18.40% in Gonda, 20.33% in Siddharthnagar (Dumariaganj), 15.11% in Maharajganj, 17.61% in Gorakhpur, 18.65% in Kushinagar, 17.22% in Deoria, Names of 17.61% voters in Bansgaon (Gorakhpur district) and 16.73% voters in Bhadohi were deleted.
What did experts say on UP SIR?
On who suffered loss due to these figures, senior journalist Yogesh Mishra says that it cannot be said yet. Due to this, it is very difficult to draw a final conclusion on the loss or gain of any party. Unless you go to the ground and see how many votes have been deducted from which community, which society, which area and which polling booth, it is not possible to decide who has suffered the loss. It would be too early to say on the basis of figures alone that only one party has suffered losses.
