Subsidiary brand Dacia of France’s popular auto company Renault has introduced a new concept (Dacia Hipster) in the electric car segment. This car is currently in the concept stage, but its design, size and smart features have created a stir in the automobile world. Actually, this car has been made for those people who want a light, economical and eco-friendly electric car for everyday city drives. With a length of just 3 metres, it could be the perfect electric car for congested cities like India.

Dacia Hipster

  • The Dacia Hipster is smaller than the company’s popular Spring EV. While the Spring is 3.7 meters long, the Hipster is only 3 meters long. Despite this, it has been provided with seating capacity for four adults. It has a boot space of 70 litres, which increases to 500 liters when the rear seat is folded. This means that despite being a small city car, it has better storage space.

Design and exterior

  • The design of Dacia Hipster is very unique and eye-catching. Its boxy look gives it a modern and minimalistic feel. The front features horizontal headlamps, two-part tailgate, and recycled-plastic panels for side protection. Its special feature is that the doors are not provided with traditional handles but with straps. This keeps the cost of the car low and the design also looks more simple.

Interior and Features

  • From inside, Dacia Hipster looks very simple but smart. In place of any in-built screen, it has the facility to connect smartphone and Bluetooth speaker. There are 11 YouClip mounts available inside the car, with the help of which accessories like cupholder, armrest and extra light can be added. This car is also strong from safety point of view. It has features like dual airbags, ISOFIX mounting points, strong chassis and sliding windows. The futuristic steering wheel and front bench seat give it a completely different look from traditional compact cars.

Battery, range and charging

  • The company has not yet officially disclosed the battery capacity of Dacia Hipster, but it is believed that it will be provided with a 20 kWh battery. This battery can give a range of about 150 km, which is better for daily city use. It is estimated that generally it will need to be charged twice a week. Since it is a light car (weighing only 800 kg), both its performance and efficiency are expected to be better.

Launch timeline and price

  • Production of Dacia Hipster is likely to start by 2026 or 2027. The company will keep it cheaper than Spring EV so that it remains within the reach of common people. The estimated price could be around £13,000 (about Rs 13 lakh), while the price of Spring EV is around 17,000 Euro in Europe. The company will first launch it in Europe and then there is a possibility of bringing it to Asian markets, especially India.
