Indian Air Force Jambaz officer Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is in the news these days. Recently, he along with the army’s Colonel Sophia Qureshi held an important press briefing on ‘Operation Sindoor’, which caught the attention of the country. Vyomika Singh joined the Flying Branch of the Air Force in 2004 through the Short Service Commission (SSC) and today she is a capable helicopter pilot.
After completing engineering studies, he chose the Air Force and caught the path of service while being NCC cadet. If you also want to touch the heights of the sky like Vyomika Singh and become a pilot in the Air Force, then it has many avenues.
Main routes to enter the Air Force
NDA (National Defense Academy)
12th (PCM) pass students can go to Army, Navy and Air Force through NDA. NDA doors have also opened for women too. Age should be between 16.5 to 19.5 years. NDA gets a permanent commission directly.
AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test)
This is for unmarried men and women. Flying branch requires 20 to 24 years of age, 50% in 12th (PCM) and 60% marks in graduation. B.Tech is necessary for technical branch. There is a short service commission in it.

CDS (Combined Defense Services)
CDS is also a big way to become an officer. In this too, graduation from PCM to 12th and any stream is necessary to enter the Air Force. There should be B.Sc or Engineering for the Navy. CDS also provides short service commission.
NCC Special Entry
If you have a ‘C certificate’ of NCC and you are in the final year of B.Tech, then you can go to the flying branch by giving AFSB interview directly without written examination.
