Well-known Hindi scholar Francesca Orsini of London was stopped from coming to India on Monday (20 October 2025) night. Despite having a valid five-year e-visa, he was not allowed to enter Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. According to sources, the government said that Francesca Orsini had come to India on a tourist visa, but she violated the conditions of the visa.

According to government sources, Francesca Orsini has been blacklisted from March 2025 due to violation of visa rules. It is a normal procedure that if a person violates the conditions of the visa then he can be blacklisted.
TMC targets central government
TMC MP Sagarika Ghosh has targeted the central government regarding this matter. He posted on X and described this incident as sad and shocking. He wrote, Francesca Orsini is a scholar of South Asian literature and Hindi. Despite having a valid visa, he has been deported. The narrow-minded and backward-thinking Narendra Modi government is destroying the open-minded excellence that India has always stood for.
Francesca Orsini has studied from JNU
Francesca Orsini is a renowned scholar and professor of Hindi at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London. He obtained his graduation degree in Hindi from Venice University, Italy. He did further studies in India at the Central Institute of Hindi and Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Francesca Orsini received her doctorate from SOAS, London. Presently she is working as a Professor of Hindi and South Asian Literature in the School of Culture and Linguistics. Francesca Orsini has also taught at Cambridge University. There is a debate on social media about his deportation.
