LPG Crisis: The impact of the ongoing conflict in the Gulf countries is now visible on India’s energy supply as well. Imports have decreased due to the supply of crude oil and gas being affected. Due to which the stock available with oil marketing companies is decreasing rapidly. To avoid this situation, the government and companies are gearing up.
A report published in ET claimed that consideration is being given to reducing the quantity of LPG supplied in domestic gas cylinders. It was said that now a plan is being worked on to provide about 10 kg of gas in a 14.2 kg cylinder. However, when the government was asked about this, it clearly denied it during the press briefing. It was said from the government side that there is no such idea and do not pay attention to the rumours.
There is pressure on gas imports
Talking about LPG import in the country, the situation remains under pressure at present, because new shipments from Gulf countries are not arriving at present. Last week, about 92,700 tonnes of gas arrived through two ships. Which is equal to only one day’s consumption of the country.
Along with this, due to resumption of supply to commercial users, further pressure on the available stock has increased. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Petroleum Ministry, has also indicated several times recently that the situation of LPG in the country remains a matter of constant concern.
How will the price of low gas cylinder be decided?
If the decision to reduce the quantity of gas in the cylinder is implemented, then its price will also be decided accordingly. According to officials, a separate sticker will be put on such cylinders. So that it can be clearly seen that less gas has been filled in it.
For this, bottling plants will have to make changes in their systems and will also have to take necessary regulatory approvals before starting the entire process.
Companies have expressed concern
Companies have also expressed their concern about this new plan. He believes that sudden decrease in the weight of the cylinder can cause confusion. There is a possibility of a feeling of protest among the people regarding this. Also, there may be problems in those states where assembly elections are going to be held.
According to the companies, if the situation worsens next month, it will be a matter of serious concern.
