Why Children Get Lung Cancer: Generally, lung cancer is associated with smoking, but the truth is that many such cases are coming to light in which the patient has never even smoked a cigarette. It is very important to understand why this disease is increasing even in children and non-smokers. According to medical journals, about 25 percent of lung cancer patients are those who have never smoked. There are many reasons behind lung cancer in children, which are often not paid attention to. Let us tell you how people who do not smoke also get lung cancer.

passive smoking

Children may not smoke cigarettes, but if they live around smokers, they are at risk of passive smoking. Exposure to smoke at home or in public places can cause serious damage to the lungs. Research from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention shows that in non-smoking, the risk of lung cancer increases by 20 to 30 percent.

increasing air pollution

Air pollution has become a big threat for people living in cities. Vehicle smoke, toxic particles emitted from factories and dust from construction work penetrate deep into the lungs. Its long-term effect can cause changes in cells and cause cancer.

genetic variation

In some cases, the cause of lung cancer is genetic. Some gene mutations found in children, such as EGFR, can cause cancer cells to grow rapidly even without any external cause. The risk increases further in families where there is a history of cancer.

exposure to radon gas

Radon is a radioactive gas that comes out of the ground and rocks. It can accumulate in houses with poor ventilation. It is neither visible nor has any smell, but prolonged exposure to it can increase the risk of lung cancer even in non-smokers.

hormonal causes

Some research has revealed that hormonal changes can also affect the risk of lung cancer. Some hormone-related conditions, especially in girls, can promote the growth of cancer cells. This area is still under research, but it cannot be ignored.

What do experts say?

Dr. Tarang Krishna, expert in cancer immunotherapy and managing director of Cancer Healer Centre, has mentioned three such warning signs of lung cancer. Dr. Tarang Krishna, who has more than 22 years of experience, said in an Instagram video posted on December 3 that lung cancer is among the most deadly cancers, but it is often detected very late. He told that if this disease is identified in time, then starting treatment can be much easier and effective. This is why it is very important to take the initial symptoms seriously.

A study in The Lancet published in 2022 revealed that long-term exposure to fine pollutant particles like PM2.5 is increasing the incidence of non-small cell lung cancer in non-smokers, especially in urban and industrial areas. In many big cities of India, like Delhi, Bengaluru and Noida, the level of air pollution has now become so high that it does not meet the standards set by the World Health Organization. Continuous breathing of poisonous air is becoming a serious threat to the lungs.
