US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose heavy tariffs on India to buy oil from Russia has been described by a US expert. He said that Donald Trump has made relations with India poisonous and these maneuvers are not going to come.
International Relations Spachalist and Professor of Political Science at Chicago University, John Meresheimmer said that putting a secondary tariff on India to buy Russian oil will not work. He told the podcast platform Daniel Davis Deep Dive that this is a big mistake of America. However, it is difficult to believe, but these secondary tariffs will not work with India. India has made it clear that it will not stop buying oil from Russia. He is not going to bow down.
He accused Trump of poisoning India of good relations with India, saying that Trump’s relations between the US and India in the previous term were really good, and it is necessary to have good relations with India for America’s foreign policy to control China. He said that but now what has happened with these secondary sanctions is that we have poisoned relations with India.
John Meersaheimmer also recently cited a German newspaper report, claiming that the US President tried unsuccessfully to contact Prime Minister Narendra Modi on four different occasions. He said, ‘Indians are very angry with us, almost completely. Trump tried to call PM Modi four times and he refused to talk. Apart from this, India is going close to China and Russia. It is not only effective, but also really harmful. Still, we are here.
He targeted the White House Senior Advisor Peter Navaro on trade and manufacturing. He said that Navaro led a failed strategy that has no pleasant end. He said, ‘Except people like Peter Navaro, no one is appreciating this step. I do not understand how to have a pleasant end? Will they argue whether India is going to bow or there is so much pressure on India that we can force Indians to kneel? Is this the argument? I do not know anyone who believes this and whatever India has done so far, it seems that this argument is wrong.
