After long discussion and waiting, the Congress released the list of 71 district heads in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. The most attention in this list has been given to the Other Backward Classes (OBC). Not only this, Dalit and tribal class have also got a lot of representation.
Jayawardhan Singh became Guna District President
Jayawardhan Singh, son of senior leader Digvijay Singh and former minister, has been given the responsibility of Guna district. Interestingly, Guna is the same area from where Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia belongs to. It is believed that the Congress has tried to give a big political message by removing Jayawardhan here.
Congress eye on OBC population
The OBC class has a big role in the politics of Madhya Pradesh. About 49 percent of the total population of the state comes from this category. This is the reason that BJP has also handed over the command of Uma Bharti, Babulal Gaur and Shivraj Singh Chauhan to the current Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to OBC leaders. The new list of Congress is also made keeping this equation in mind.
Women got limited space
Only four women have been made District President in the list. These include Vijayalakshmi Tanwar (Agar Malwa), Pratibha Raghuvanshi (Khandwa city), Sunita Patel (Narsinghpur) and Saraswati Singh Markam (Singrauli Rural). Questions can be raised within the party only about the low participation of women leaders.
Responsibility for former ministers and former MLAs
Apart from Jayawardhan Singh, three more former ministers have also been made District President. Omkar Singh Markam has been given the command of Dindori, Priyavrat Singh as Rajgarh and Harshvijay Gehlot as Ratlam Rural. Similarly, 11 former MLAs have also been made District President. A total of 18 leaders have been retained on their old responsibility.
Trying to help all classes
In the list of Congress, leaders of Scheduled Castes and Tribes have got a large number of places. Apart from this, two Muslims, two Jains and one Sikh leaders have also been made district presidents. Congress leaders say that this list is in line with Rahul Gandhi’s thinking. Rahul Gandhi has been constantly advocating for increasing the participation of OBC, SC and ST.

This list released by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal came two months after Gandhi started its party’s ‘organization creation campaign’ in Madhya Pradesh. Their aim is to give a strong basis to the party before the 2028 assembly elections.
The first resignation also surfaced
Soon after the list was released, Burhanpur leader Hemant Patil resigned. He did not get the post of rural district president, on which he resigned from all the posts of the party. However, he said that he will remain Congress workers.
BJP’s challenge to break the dominance
Let us know that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP won all 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh. Even Chhindwara, considered to be the stronghold of Kamal Nath, went to BJP’s account. The Congress has been out of power since 2003, he took power for only 15 months (2018–2020). In such a situation, the new list is considered to be an attempt to organize organizational strength for the Congress.
