Madras High Court has canceled the single judge’s order to give censor certificate to actor Vijay’s film ‘Jana Nayakan’. On Tuesday, the High Court gave this decision while hearing the petition of the Central Board of Film Certification (Censor Board). After this order of the court, the release of the film may be delayed.
In its petition, the Censor Board had challenged the order of the single judge, in which it was directed to immediately issue the censor certificate to actor Vijay’s film ‘Jana Nayakan’. The single judge had also rejected the instruction to send the film to the review committee.
In the last hearing, Madras High Court had reserved its decision on ‘Jana Nayakan’ and Censor Board controversy. On Tuesday, the High Court canceled the order of the single judge and said that the single judge should have given time to the Censor Board to reply.
The film has not yet received the censor certificate.
The film ‘Jana Nayakan’ cannot be released in theaters until it is approved for exhibition by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film has not yet received the censor certificate from the board.
Actually, the film was scheduled to be released in theaters on January 9, before the Pongal festival, but a few days before the release, the Censor Board informed the production house KVN Productions that on the basis of a complaint by the Board, the film has been sent to the reviewing committee. The makers then moved the Madras High Court, which in an initial victory ordered the Censor Board to issue a UA certificate after making changes to the film.
But the Censor Board appealed against the order of the High Court, after which a two-judge bench of the Madras High Court stayed the single bench’s direction to grant the certificate to the Censor Board. KVN Productions had also approached the Supreme Court. On January 15, the apex court rejected the petition and directed it to approach the Madras High Court.
