A major upheaval has been seen in the politics of Ambernath Municipality. The game which BJP was considering to be in its favor was overturned by Shiv Sena at the last moment. Now Shiv Sena has moved towards power in the municipality with a clear majority.
Shiv Sena gets new support
The equations of power in the municipality changed completely when four corporators of the Nationalist Congress Party and one independent corporator openly announced their support to Shiv Sena. After this support, Shiv Sena’s number has increased from 27 to 32, which is more than the majority figure.
Shiv Sena had emerged as the largest party in the municipal elections with 27 seats. Whereas Bharatiya Janata Party got 14 seats, Congress 12, Nationalist Congress 4 and one seat went to an independent candidate.
After the results, BJP with the support of Congress had staked claim to power by forming Ambernath Vikas Aghadi and a proposal in this regard was also placed before the Thane District Magistrate.
Ruckus over BJP-Congress alliance
This unexpected alliance of BJP and Congress became a topic of discussion in political circles. Expressing displeasure over this decision, the Congress leadership suspended all the elected corporators of Ambernath from the party. After this, in the presence of BJP state president Ravindra Chavan, 10 out of 12 corporators of Congress joined BJP.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also expressed dissatisfaction over this alliance formed with the aim of keeping Shiv Sena away from power. Shiv Sena MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde had also raised questions on this politics of BJP-Congress and demanded clarification.
Respect the public’s decision – Shiv Sena
Shiv Sena leaders say that the people of Ambernath had given the biggest mandate to Shiv Sena in the name of development. The public rejected the experiment of BJP-Congress and respecting the same sentiment, four NCP and one independent corporator chose to side with Shiv Sena.
Preparation for power formation
Now Shiv Sena is in clear majority with the support of 32 corporators. The party will soon stake a formal claim to form power in Ambernath Municipality. According to sources, in the coming days the necessary documents will be handed over to the District Magistrate and a new chapter will begin in the politics of Ambernath.
