The Gujarat government has amended the law regarding marriage registration related to alleged ‘Love Jihad’. Meanwhile, the demand for implementing similar provisions has intensified in Maharashtra also. Kirit Somaiya has demanded that the same rule should be implemented in Maharashtra on the lines of Gujarat.

He has appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Kirit Soumeya said that in such cases, the parents of Hindu girls should be compulsorily informed when applying for marriage registration. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has decided to amend the marriage registration to include the parents of boys and girls getting married.

This will ensure security

They say that this will ensure security in cases where girls are allegedly induced to marry by concealing their identity or through false promises. It has also been suggested in the proposal that the process of marriage registration should be completed only after the completion of the period of 40 days after the application.

BJP leader made this claim

Kirit claims that this will provide sufficient time for investigation and verification of potentially disputed cases. However, differences are also emerging between various social and political organizations regarding this issue. Some organizations say that such provisions may impact the personal freedom and marital rights of adults.

It is noteworthy that after the amendment made in Gujarat, the discussion regarding such laws has intensified in other states also. There has been no official response to this demand from the Maharashtra government yet. BJP leader Kirit Soumeya has written a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis demanding this amendment.
