Kunal Patil joins BJP: The Congress has suffered a major setback in Maharashtra. Former MLA Kunal Patil joined BJP on Tuesday (July 1). He is the son of the veteran Congress leader former minister late Rohidas Patil.
Patil, who belongs to Dhule, said that his decision is voluntary and people supported him. There is no pressure on me to join BJP. I come from the tradition of public service. My supporters and voters have supported my decision. I am joining BJP to serve people more effectively.
Kunal Patil joined the party in the presence of senior BJP leaders Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Ravindra Chavan and Girish Mahajan. Patil contested the assembly elections from Dhule rural seat on a Congress ticket in November 2024, although he suffered defeat. From this seat, he won the 2014 and 2019 elections.
What a big shock for Congress?
Kunal Patil’s going to BJP is being considered a big shock for the Congress. His family has been associated with the party for three generations. He is the son of late Rohidas Patil. Rohidas Patil was a veteran Congress leader and former Minister of State. He took over the major departments in Congress governments.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met at his residence in March last year when Rohidas Patil was unwell and even had a phone conversation between him and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Kunal Patil’s grandfather Chudaman Patil also served as an MP from Dhule Lok Sabha constituency between 1962 and 1971.
What did Congress say?
When Kunal Patil joined BJP, Maharashtra Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal said that this is his suicide verdict. He said, “BJP cannot increase its cadre in the role of leadership, both his father and grandfather were the prominent Congress person who held important positions. He will be very sad with this decision. ”
At the same time, Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadattiwar said that whoever wants to leave the Congress is free to do so. We will continue to work hard in Maharashtra and strengthen the party.
