In the elections held for the post of Mayor in Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, BJP candidate Dimple Mehta was unanimously elected as Mayor. This election was held in the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation premises as part of the mayor selection process after the recently concluded elections of 29 municipalities. Voting took place despite the opposition of Marathi Ekikaran Samiti and Dimple Mehta got a clear majority.
Let us tell you that even before the elections for the post of Mayor in Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, the political atmosphere had heated up. Marathi Ekikaran Samiti raised the issue that only Marathi mayor is acceptable to the city, but BJP ignored this protest and went ahead with the election process.
No candidate withdrew his nomination during the application withdrawal period. During voting, 78 BJP councilors and 1 independent councilor raised their hands in favor of Dimple Mehta. In this way, it was decided to elect Dimple Mehta as Mayor with a total of 79 votes. During this process, a picture of both opposition and support was clearly visible in the Municipal Corporation House.
Deputy Mayor selection and vote counting
Along with the mayor, voting was also conducted for the post of Deputy Mayor. BJP’s Dhruv Kishore Patil received a total of 79 votes for the post and was appointed Deputy Mayor of Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation.
16 councilors of Mira-Bhayandar Vikas Aghadi supported Congress candidate Rubina Shaikh. Dimple Mehta got 79 votes, while Rubina Sheikh got 16 votes. Thus Dimple Mehta won by a huge margin of votes. Voting figures made it clear that BJP’s position in the House remained strong.
Controversy over Dimple Mehta becoming mayor!
With the possibility of Dimple Mehta becoming the Amrathi mayor, a new controversy has emerged in the city’s politics. Marathi Ekikaran Samiti along with MNS protested outside the Municipal Corporation and reiterated the demand for only Marathi mayor.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Pratap Sarnaik criticized the committee while talking to ABP Majha. He said that the committee had earlier defeated 28 BJP councilors by supporting Ubatha and MNS and the result of the same is coming out in the form of protest today. Sarnaik also raised the question why there was no protest when Geeta Jain became mayor and Narendra Mehta became MLA, while the population of Amrathi community in the area is about 80 percent.
