The government file of a documentary film being made on the life and work of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule in Mumbai mysteriously disappeared. When the matter became serious, an FIR was registered against unknown people at Marine Drive Police Station. DGIPR Senior Assistant Director Sagar Namdev Kamble has filed this complaint.
How did you know the file is missing?
Sagar Kamble, who has been posted in the ministry in the news department of DGIPR since September 1, was looking into this file during a routine check on October 28. During this time, he came to know that instead of the original file related to the proposal of Mahatma Phule documentary, only its photocopy was kept. Seeing this he immediately asked his colleagues where the original documents were.
Colleagues told that they had been working only on the basis of this photocopy for a long time. Whatever new update came, it was added to the same photocopy. Hearing this, Kamble started a search in the entire department, but the original file was not found anywhere.
Records from 2017 to 2020 also missing
As the investigation progressed, new things came to light. Senior clerk Ashwini Gosavi said that not only this file, but the entire record from January 1, 2017 to March 31, 2020 is also missing. After this information came to light, the matter became more serious.
On November 14, DGIPR ordered Sagar Kamble to lodge an official complaint, after which he lodged a police report.
FIR against unknown people, now under police investigation
A case has been registered against unknown persons at Marine Drive Police Station. It has been alleged in the complaint that someone has deliberately destroyed or made the original government file disappear. The police is now trying to find out how and when such sensitive and important documents went missing from the ministry.
The matter raises serious questions on the security of government process. The investigating officers are interrogating the concerned employees and the record system of the ministry is also being reviewed.
This proposal related to the documentary made on Mahatma Jyotiba Phule is related to subjects like social justice, education, women empowerment and social reform. This file was not only important from the administrative point of view but was also a part of an important cultural project of the Maharashtra government. Therefore its disappearance has become a matter of concern for the authorities.
