Maharashtra Cyber Police has issued a notice to social media platform ‘X’ asking it to deactivate the account through which a satirical post about Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ visit to Davos was shared. Police gave this information on Tuesday, February 3.
On January 20, a post was shared on the ‘X’ handle named ‘Gajab Bhau’, which has about 39 thousand followers, targeting the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, who had gone to attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. The nodal agency dealing with cyber crimes in Maharashtra took cognizance after the complaint received regarding this post.
Warning of strict legal action
In the complaint the post was described as objectionable and inflammatory. After this, the cyber unit issued a notice to ‘X’ on January 22 and warned of strict legal action if it did not follow the instructions of Indian law enforcement agencies.
The user of ‘Gajab Bhau’ account himself posted this notice on his account on Monday. According to the police, this notice has been sent under Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines) Rules, 2011.
What allegations were made on the account?
It has been alleged in the complaint that the account holder shared an objectionable post against a person holding a constitutional post.
