There was a conflict between the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party over a Gujarati board in the Sews area of Navi Mumbai. The dispute started with a signboard placed outside the public relations office of BJP MLA Virendrasinh Bahadur Singh Jadeja from Rapar in Gujarat, which was completely in Gujarati language. This board was finally changed after the objections of local Marathi citizens and warnings of MNS.
The absence of Marathi in Gujarati board became the root of controversy
The name and constituency of the MLA was mentioned only in Gujarati language in the board installed outside this office located in Sector 42. Seeing this, many local Marathi residents expressed displeasure and complained to MNS.
After this, Navi Mumbai City Secretary Sachin Kadam and activists reached the office on Thursday, but he was closed from inside.
Kadam said, “This is a direct insult to Marathi language and culture. Marathi should get due respect in Maharashtra. We are not against any language, but Marathi cannot be ignored.”
24 -hour ultimatum was given
MNS also informed senior BJP leaders in this matter and made it clear that if Marathi was not included in the board within 24 hours, they would be forced to take aggressive action. It was said on behalf of the organization that their demand is not communal, but is about the honor of Marathi language.
Kadam said, “We do not want to spoil communal harmony. Our only demand is that Marathi language and culture should be respected in Navi Mumbai so that everyone can live in peace.”
Board changed overnight
A few hours after MNS’s warning, the board of the concerned office was changed late Thursday night. On Friday, Sachin Kadam confirmed that now Marathi language has also been given a proper place in the board.
After this development, once again the debate over the use of Marathi language in public places in Maharashtra has intensified. The attitude of MNS is clear that no matter what party is the office, Marathi will not be ignored.
