Parbhani district recorded the highest turnout of 74.89 percent, while Ratnagiri recorded the lowest turnout of 55.79 percent. On Saturday, voting was held for the election of 731 members in the districts of Raigarh, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Parbhani, Dharashiv and Latur, in which 2,624 candidates were in the fray. Counting of votes will take place on February 9.
According to the SEC, Parbhani was followed by Kolhapur, where 74.45 percent voting took place, while Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recorded 72.69 percent voting. These elections, which were originally scheduled to be held on February 5, were postponed due to the death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and the subsequent declaration of three days of state mourning.
The Zilla Parishad elections, being seen as the first major electoral test after the tragedy, are being closely watched for the future direction of the Nationalist Congress Party.
