An unimaginable accident took place on Tuesday (November 3) in the TB hospital of Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. A patient admitted here caused serious harm to his health by smoking beedis throughout his life. Now he is on oxygen support, but his addiction to beedi is not going away. This addiction caused such a scandal to the patient, knowing about which you will also think that addiction forces a person to even risk his life.
Actually, a patient named Shyamlal is admitted in the TB hospital built in Kamla Nehru Nagar. He is constantly being given oxygen because he has damaged his lungs due to cigarette and beedi habit. His health is critical. However, this drug addicted patient secretly smoked beedi during the treatment. As soon as the matchstick was lit, a fire broke out in the oxygen pipe.
Patient’s face and hands burnt
Within no time, Shyamlal’s face and hands caught fire and he started screaming. There was chaos in the hospital. The nursing staff on duty immediately showed their presence of mind and brought the fire under control. The good thing is that the fire was extinguished in time, otherwise the entire ward could have been in danger due to the explosion of the oxygen cylinder.
Hospital Superintendent Dr. CR Chaudhary confirmed the incident and said that the patient was being given oxygen. During that time, he secretly lit a beedi, which caused a fire. The nursing staff took immediate action and extinguished the fire. By then the patient’s hands and face were burnt. His treatment is continuing.”
Why were beedis and lighter kept near the patient?
After this incident, serious questions have been raised on the security arrangements of the hospital. How was it possible that things like beedis, matchsticks or lighters reached the patient who was on oxygen support? The hospital administration has currently ordered an internal inquiry and a report has been sought from the concerned ward staff. Bringing intoxicants to hospitals is strictly prohibited, yet how the patient succeeded in burning the beedi is a big question.
This incident in Jodhpur is a warning that if safety standards are not strictly followed in hospitals, then a small carelessness can take the form of a big accident. At present, Shyamlal’s treatment is going on and his condition is said to be stable. The hospital administration has said that strict steps will be taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in future.
