On January 14, 2026, Khichdi festival i.e. Makar Sankranti is being celebrated with devotion, faith and enthusiasm across the country. Some people will also celebrate Makar Sankranti on 15th January as per Udayatithi. Makar Sankranti is celebrated when the Sun comes out of Sagittarius and enters Capricorn.

This year in 2026, there is also a coincidence of Shattila Ekadashi on the day of Makar Sankranti. Due to Ekadashi Tithi, people will not make Khichdi on this day, but they can make Khichdi on Dwadashi Tithi. Today, instead of using rice, you can make khichdi with sago, sama rice or porridge etc.
