Shubman Gill was made the ODI captain of India in October 2025. Gill took over the reins of captaincy by replacing Rohit Sharma. However, Gill faced defeat in the first two ODI series as captain, after which the demand for ‘sacking’ him from the captaincy and making Rohit Sharma the captain again intensified.
In fact, former Team India player Manoj Tiwari raised his voice and said that Rohit should be made the ODI captain again by removing Gill. Apart from this, he also believes that Rohit Sharma is much better than Gill in terms of captaincy. Manoj Tiwari talked about this after Team India’s defeat in the ODI series against New Zealand.
there is still time to improve
Speaking to InsideSports, Manoj Tiwari said, “I am saying that there is still time for improvement. This is about the World Cup. We are not going to play any bilateral series or random tournaments.” He further said, “What was the need to remove Rohit Sharma from the captaincy? I am sure that if Rohit was still captaining in ODIs, the result (of the series against New Zealand) would have been different, because when they won the Champions Trophy, I felt that the team was moving in the right direction.”
Rohit Sharma is much better than Shubman Gill
Manoj Tiwari further said, “Rohit is still not a little but much better than Gill. That’s why he is such a successful captain. You can win the World Cup under Gill’s captaincy, but my advice is to compare the captaincy of both.”
He further said, “If Rohit becomes the captain, what will be the chances of winning? And if Gill remains the captain, what will be the chances of winning? I think everyone will say that if Rohit will be the captain, then there will be 85 to 90 percent chances of winning the World Cup.”
