With the great partnership of captain Mayank Agarwal (100) and Devdutt Padikkal (91), Karnataka defeated Rajasthan by 150 runs on Tuesday and secured a place in the quarterfinals of Vijay Hazare Trophy.
After making a huge score of 324 runs for seven wickets, Karnataka bowled brilliantly under the leadership of Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna (five wickets for 36 runs) and bowled out Rajasthan for 174 runs in 38 overs.
This is Karnataka’s sixth consecutive victory. The team has secured the top position in the group table with 24 points. Kerala, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh have 16 points each and will compete in the final round match for second place on the basis of net run rate.
Tamil Nadu and Tripura are at fifth and sixth position respectively with eight points each.
Mayank scored his second century of the current tournament in an innings of 107 balls, while Padikkal missed completing his fifth century of the season by nine runs in an innings of 82 balls. Rajasthan bowlers looked helpless during their 184-run partnership.
Experienced Vishnu Vinod’s aggressive innings of unbeaten 162 off 84 balls helped Kerala make a big improvement in its net run rate by defeating Puducherry by eight wickets with 21 overs remaining.
Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson (11 runs) and Rohan Kunnummal (8) failed to make a big contribution for Kerala but Vinod’s List A career-best innings helped the team achieve the target of 247 runs in just 29 overs.
Vinod along with Baba Aparajit (63 not out) made an unbroken partnership of 222 runs for the third wicket and gave the team an easy victory.
Jharkhand’s all-round game of Utkarsh Singh (three wickets and 56 runs) along with the century innings of opener Shikhar Mohan (103) kept the hopes of quarter-finals alive by defeating Madhya Pradesh by two wickets.
Utkarsh took three wickets for 36 runs due to which Madhya Pradesh team was out for 277 runs in 48.4 overs. Despite losing five wickets for 29 runs in the middle order, Jharkhand achieved the target with 14 balls remaining.
