Kalyan-Dombivali Municipality in Thane district of Maharashtra (Kdmc) Has decided to ban the sale of chicken and mutton in the area on 15 August. This decision was strongly opposed by the Hindu Khatik Samaj and Chicken and Mutton Merchants Association. However, despite this protest, KDMC is adamant on its decision.
KDMC is showing a copy of the 1988 order to the protesters and saying that there is a ban on the sale of mutton and chicken, not its intake. In 1988, the then administration issued this order and on 15 August and 26 January every year on two national festivals, chicken and mutton vendors are being given notices to keep their shops closed.
‘If there is opposition, it will be considered’
On the other hand, political parties have been presenting their stand for the last two days, while a memorandum has been given to KDMC by mutton and chicken vendors and Hindu butcher society. On this, KDMC Additional Commissioner Yogesh Godse has said that if there is opposition from the local people, then it will be considered.
KDMC has opposed the decision
The impact of KDMC’s decision is being seen all over the state. Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray party leader Aditya Thackeray, Jitendra Awhad of Nationalist Sharad Pawar faction have aggressively opposed.
Mutton and chicken seller union warns
The Hindu buttime at the local level, the Municipal Society and the Maharashtra State Mutton and the Chicken Vendor Association demanded the withdrawal of the verdict and warned that if the verdict is not withdrawn, mutton and chicken would be sold at the entrance of the municipal corporation. Surprisingly, it is being expressed that despite opposition to this decision of the Municipal Corporation, the Municipal Corporation is adamant on its stand.
Additional Commissioner Godse said that there is a ban on the sale of mutton and chicken. There is no restriction on food. No one should create confusion. This order has been applicable since 1988 and is not a new order. So far no one has opposed it. The orders are changed according to the changing circumstances. If some people insist, they will consider it to take a decision by negotiating with the commissioner on the memorandum.
