The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a big step to strengthen medical education in the state. Actually, the Uttar Pradesh government has approved to increase 950 MBBS and 271 post graduate seats in the medical colleges of the state for the educational level 2025-26. This decision of the Uttar Pradesh government is being considered as a big step towards removing the shortage of doctors in the state and strengthening the health services.
MBBS seats increased in government and private colleges
Out of 950 MBBS seats increased by the Uttar Pradesh government, 200 seats have been added in government medical colleges. Whereas 750 seats have been added in 12 private colleges. This decision of the state government is considered to be the biggest expansion in the medical education of the state in the last few years. Among the government medical colleges where seats have increased, 100 new seats have been added in the Autonomous State Medical College of Amethi. Whereas ESIC Medical College, Noida and ESIC Medical College, Varanasi have got 50-50 extra seats. With this, the total number of MBBS seats in government medical colleges has increased to 5,450, while in private colleges this number has reached 7,350. This means that now the total number of MBBS seats in the state is around 12,800.
Seats increased in PG courses also
Along with MBBS, the Uttar Pradesh government has also expanded seats in post graduate courses. A total of 271 new seats have been added in post graduate courses. Out of which 233 seats have been added in government colleges. Whereas seats have been added in 38 private colleges. After this increase, the total number of PG seats in government colleges has now become 3,137 and in private colleges 2,160.
Health infrastructure will be strengthened by increasing seats.
The Uttar Pradesh government believes that this increase in MBBS and PG seats will give a new direction to medical education in the state. This will not only provide more opportunities to students in the medical sector, but will also increase the availability of doctors in both rural and urban areas. This step is being considered a major change in the direction of strengthening the health care infrastructure of the state.
