Safe medicine for pregnant women: US President Donald Trump recently created a stir worldwide by making a statement. He claimed that commonly used pain and fever medicine can increase the risk of autism and ADHD in the child in pregnancy. After this statement of Trump, fear spread among pregnant women and discussion on social media also intensified.
However, the World Health Organization (WHO), European Medicine Agency (EMA) and Britain’s health agencies have rejected Trump’s claim. Former Chief Scientist of WHO, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan said that paracetamol is still the safest medicine for pregnant women. He clearly said that no new scientific evidence has been revealed about this.

Indian doctors have also clearly stated that Trump’s claim is not scientifically correct. Dr. Rajiv Jayaraman of Cochin said that in a study on 24 lakh children in Sweden, it was found that paracetamol does not increase the risk of autism or other neuro-decayal disorder.
He warned that if pregnant women do not take paracetamol in high fever, then it can pose a threat to both mother and child. Fever can damage the development of the fetus.
