The case of kidnapping of a Dalit girl and murder of her mother in Kapsad village of Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh is gaining momentum. Today on Saturday (January 10, 2026), when Samajwadi Party National General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Ramjilal Suman was going to meet the victim’s family, the police stopped him at Partapur toll, SP MLA from Sardhana Atul Pradhan was also present with him.
During this time, there was a clash between the SP leaders and the police. When the SP leaders were not allowed to go to the village of the victim’s family, they all sat on a dharna there. Atul Pradhan accused the police administration as to why the victim’s family was not being allowed to meet political representatives.
Ramjilal Suman was going to meet the victim’s family
Rajya Sabha MP Ramjilal Suman was going from Agra to Meerut’s Kapsad village to meet the victim’s Dalit family, but Meerut police stopped him at Partapur toll. When Samajwadi Party workers tried to leave forcibly, there was a scuffle with the police. After which Ramjilal Suman and MLA Atul Pradhan sat on a dharna there along with the angry workers. Accused the police that the voice of the victim’s family is being suppressed, and even after two days of the incident, the accused have not been taken into custody nor has the girl been recovered.

What is the whole issue of Kapsaad?
Let us tell you that on January 8, in village Kapsad of Sardhana area of Meerut, powerful youths (Thakur community) kidnapped Ruby, a girl who was going to work with her mother in the fields. When her mother Sunita came to save her daughter, they injured her by hitting her on the head with a sharp weapon. He died during treatment. After this incident, there was a situation of tension in the entire village. Opposition parties including Samajwadi Party called it a serious case of atrocities on Dalits.
Dalit organizations have also demanded strict action against the accused in this case. From BSP supremo Mayawati to SP chief Akhilesh Yadav have raised questions on law and order.
