People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, People’s Conference President Sajjad Lone and former Hurriyat president Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have claimed that they have been arrested (under house arrest). The three leaders said that the Hurriyat Conference wanted to go to Sopore to mourn the death of Abdul Gani Bhat, former president of the Hurriyat Conference, but was stopped.
90 -year -old Abdul Ghani Bhat died at his residence in Sopore on Wednesday (September 17) after a long illness. Mehbooba Mufti criticized the administration on the X handle and said that this arrested is proof of attack on democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.
Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that it is becoming increasingly clear that the BJP has “no interest” in peace or reform in Kashmir. He further said, “Instead, they are firm to keep the region in a state of constant disturbance and are making weapons for pain and unrest in the rest of the country. This condemnable approach is not only irresponsible; but also dangerous and completely condemnable.”

What did Mirwaiz Umar Farooq say?
Hurriyat Conference President Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also claimed that he was placed under house arrest on Wednesday. Mirwaiz said on X, “I am sad beyond words that the authorities forced Prof. SB’s family to complete their ‘funeral’ in a hurry. I have been locked in my house and is not being given the right to walk with him in his last visit.”
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that his friendship and guidance with Bhat has a 35 -year relationship. He said, “Many other people were also craving to pay him a final tribute. It is an unbearable cruelty to be deprived of his involvement in ‘Janaza’ and also the relaxation of his final farewell.”
Sajjad Lone, former minister and president of the People’s Conference, said, “I have been put under house arrest to prevent Professor Ghani Saheb’s ancestral village from going to Bottingu.
