Mehbooba mufti: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti wrote a letter to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to urge him to stand for the basic values of the Indian Constitution amid the growing majority political atmosphere.
Mehbooba Mufti in her statement expressed deep concern over the increasing wave of majority in the country in the last decade. He said that this trend is a serious threat to the basic principles of India’s plurality, diversity and secularism. He said, “While most of the citizens continue to reject this divisive agenda, people who promote hatred and boycott are now occupying the positions of power.”
Secular fabric is being targeted: Mufti
PDP chief said, ‘They are systematically targeting our constitution, democratic institutions and the secular fabric of our country. Minorities, especially Muslims, are suffering the brunt of these actions – the latest example of this is arbitrary enforcement of new Waqf laws that weaken our religious freedom.
Mehbooba Mufti connected the Waqf law to Section 370
Mufti further said that these developments are not isolated, but part of the broad pattern of systemic erosion of rights including cancellation of Article 370 and the division of Jammu and Kashmir. In his letters written to the three Chief Ministers, he accepted his continuous and courageous protest against such injustice.
You retained democratic idea: Mehbooba Mufti
The former CM of Jammu and Kashmir said, ‘In these dark and difficult times, your clarity, courage and commitment to justice have been a rare ray of hope. With some theorist voices, you have retained the inclusive and democratic idea of India. I am writing my deep respect and gratitude to those countless people who feel soundless and marginalized today. With your constant leadership and support, I believe that we can recover our constitutional values and protect our shared future. ‘
