Mexican Security Forces killed ‘El Mencho’, known as ‘Drug Lord’, during an operation on Sunday (22 February). After his death, violence spread in many parts of the country. The situation became so out of control that the army had to take to the streets. Not only this, incidents of arson have also taken place at many places. Meanwhile, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has appealed to the people to maintain peace.
According to local media, Mexico’s most wanted criminal and the leader of the notorious Jalisco New Generation (CJNG) drug cartel has been killed during an army operation. Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as ‘El Mencho’, was killed on Sunday morning during a military operation in the central-western state of Jalisco.
Violence and smoke in the sky
After the death of El Mencho, violence spread in many parts of Mexico and people even set fire to many buildings. The important thing is that along with the army, some gunmen have also come out on the streets and are blocking the roads. Many videos of Mexico have been seen on social media, in which smoke is visible in the sky.
People were instructed not to go out
Amidst the worsening situation in Mexico, people have been instructed to stay in their homes. Due to security reasons, public transport has been completely stopped at many places. However, the President of Mexico has claimed that the situation is normal in most parts of the country.

America had announced the reward
Mexico’s Defense Ministry said El Mencho died of injuries sustained while being airlifted following a military operation. The CJNG had expanded beyond its original sphere of influence in the state of Jalisco to an almost nationwide presence throughout Mexico. The United States had announced a reward of $15 million (about 11.1 million pounds) for information leading to the arrest of El Mencho.
