Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has announced his retirement from T20 international cricket. 35 -year -old Stark told that he has taken this decision keeping in mind India’s Test tour, Ashes and 2027 ODI World Cup. He played the last T20 against India in June 2024.

Mitchell Starc said, “Test cricket has always been my priority. I enjoyed every minute of every T20 match played for Australia, especially in the 2021 World Cup. Not because we won the title, but because our team was fantastic and we had a lot of fun during that time.”

Australia has a busy schedule in Test cricket next year. This includes the T20 series against Bangladesh, the tour of South Africa, a 4 -match series against New Zealand. Australia will play a 5 -Test series on the tour of India in January 2027, which will be important for the ICC World Test Championship. This will be followed by the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe, in which Australia cricket team will land as defending champions. Stark has decided to say goodbye to T20, giving priority to Test and ODI.

Mitchell Starc said, “Test series against the Indian cricket team, Ashes and then in 2027 ODI World Cup. To keep yourself fit in these tournaments and give my best performance, I think that is right.” He also said that this will also provide enough time for the new bowling unit for the T20 World Cup to be held in 2026.

George Bailey, Chairman of Australia Selection Committee, said: “Stark should be very proud of his T20 career for Australia. He is an important member of the 2021 World Cup winning team. The good thing is that he plans to play Test and ODI cricket for a long time.”

Stark played his T20 international debut match against Pakistan in September 2012. His last T20 is against India, which he played on 24 June 2024. In a 12 -year career, Mitchell Starc played 65 international T20 matches, with 79 wickets in his name. He could never take 5 wickets in this format.
