Mohammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, congratulated the tariff negotiaters of Bangladesh on Friday (August 1, 2025) for the business agreement with the US. However, Yunus also mentioned the deadlock on the deal during this period.

In a statement issued by the press wing of Bangladesh Chief Advisor, Mohammad Yunus said, “We proudly congratulate the Tariff negotiaters of Bangladesh, who signed a historic trade agreement with the US, this is a decisive diplomatic victory.” Yunus described the agreement as a successful tariff conversation with the US.

Yunus sarcasted India over American tariff

Mohammad Yunus said in a statement issued on his X account, “Bangladesh has attained 20 percent tariff rate from the US, which is equal to competitors in its major textile industry sector like Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Pakistan and Indonesia, which have received the rates between 19 to 20 percent from the US.

At the same time, Mohammad Yunus has taken a dig at India over the tariff imposed by America. Yunus said, “India has received a tariff of 25 percent from the US as compared to other countries as it has failed to make a comprehensive agreement with the US.”

India-Bangladesh relations have deteriorated for the last one year

India has taken tough steps against anti -India comments and rhetoric under the Yunus rule in Bangladesh. In such a situation, the relations between the two countries are going bad since August last year and the trade of both countries has also been affected.

At the same time, Bangladesh, who is dependent on America, believes that it has done better than its neighbor India by achieving 20 percent tariffs against 25 percent of India’s 25 % additional tariffs.
