From army to politicians took oath of loyalty

According to Al Jazeera report, as soon as the name was announced, Iran’s military, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and political leaders immediately swore allegiance to Mojtaba Khamenei. IRGC issued a statement saying, ‘We are ready to follow the orders of the new leader Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei and sacrifice ourselves. The top leadership of the army has promised complete loyalty. The Speaker of Parliament has called it a ‘religious and national duty’. The security chief said that the new leader is capable of showing the country the right direction in this difficult time.

Mojtaba Khamenei was called power breaker

The Assembly has appealed to the entire country including experts from Madrassas and Universities to unite behind the new leader and maintain the unity of the country. Mojtaba Khamenei is 56 years old. He had been working in his father’s office for a long time and has very close relations with the IRGC. He was not seen much in public, but behind the scenes he was considered very powerful. He was called ‘power broker’ and ‘gatekeeper’.

Mojtaba fought in the war with Iraq

Mojtaba took part in the last days of the Iran-Iraq war from 1980-88 at the age of 17-18. Served in Habib Ibn Mazahir battalion of IRGC. Many commanders of the war later reached high positions in the IRGC. After the war, Mojtaba went to Qom, where he studied Shiism. Took training from many conservative scholars. Today his rank is Hujjatul Islam (Mid-level Cleric).
